Museums and citizen research
The participation of non-professionals can be found in all aspects of the museum: in collection and exhibition practices, but also beforehand, when researching particular artefacts or the collections. In fact, museums are always innovating new ways of transmitting knowledge, even going so far as to take the views of non-professionals into account.
As well as sharing experiences, these seminars aim to identify and debate the issues raised by participation in the museum sector. Is participation a way of institutionalising alternative knowledge? Does it lead to greater public involvement? Does the digitisation of collections open up new prospects for citizen cultural research and does the museum, as an institution, need to adapt to make room for it?
